SIRENA VS. SAN PEDRILLO

Sirena is dominated by secondary rainforest, which is drier and more open with more fruit-bearing trees, attracting a wider variety of animals. San Pedrillo has primary rainforest that has never been cut, offering a pristine environment and a higher chance of seeing birds and smaller mammals. While both offer abundant wildlife viewing, Sirena has a higher chance of spotting larger mammals like tapirs and peccaries. San Pedrillo may have easier views of scarlet macaws. Trails in San Pedrillo are generally moderate, with some steeper sections, while Sirena trails are considered easier, potentially suitable for families with young children. Both areas you'll hike around 5 hours. San Pedrillo = @45 minute boat ride each way. Sirena = @ 1 hour boat ride each way.  Note that you'll only be able to go to the station that has availability so book early!

PRIVATE OR GROUP TOURS:  CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK

If you are looking for the wildest area of Costa Rica then Corcovado National Park is it!  The park is the largest in Costa Rica at 424km2 (164m2) and protects one third of the Osa Peninsula and its inhabitants. The main differences between the Sirena and San Pedrillo ranger station hikes in Corcovado National Park revolve around the type of rainforest, wildlife, and accessibility. Sirena is known for its secondary rainforest and higher concentration of larger mammals like tapirs, while San Pedrillo features primary rainforest and a nearby waterfall. San Pedrillo is also closer to Drake Bay, resulting in a slightly shorter boat ride and potentially more time spent in the forest.  Both hikes are about 5 hours each and the heat is usually quite extreme so keep this in mind when thinking of booking a Private Tour (where you can go at your own pace) or a Group Tour.

IMPORTANT:  When you get on or off the boat, your feet will get wet (wading to the beach) so please see the What to Bring & What to Wear sections below.
